Susan Harrison, founder of Brick Street Art Studios, and current Visual Art Chair of the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts, has developed comprehensive visual art programs and curricula for a wide range of educational institutions, while working with diverse elementary, secondary and higher education students. She especially loves to mentor foundation students and work with them over a three to four-year span as they develop their art and design portfolios for competitive pre-college summer arts programs as well as for art school and university-level majors and programs. Harrison strongly believes that the enjoyment, problem-solving and higher-thinking skills developed via art, photography and design processes that she employs in her teaching and mentoring approaches not only result in happier and higher achieving life-long learners and reflective thinkers but also in more confident, self-directed and motivated artists. Helping students develop their own inner creative compass as well as conceptual and technical know how is her main purpose. "I feel successful as an art mentor and "coach" when students leave my studio with a strong sense of their ability to mold and shape their own respective path in any creative pursuit. as well as a strong sense of their individual aesthetic, tastes and sensibilities."
